Boston Bruins to Host 19 “When You Read, You Score!” Events

Kick-off Event At Dorchester Library With Jimmy Hayes on 6/27 from 2-3pm

BOSTON, MA – June 27, 2016 – The Boston Bruins will partner with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Massachusetts Library System for the eighth year to host “When You Read, You Score!” summer reading programs presented by Velcro Companies. The Bruins will host a kick-off summer reading event with Jimmy Hayes at the Boston Public Library Adams Street Branch in Dorchester (690 Adams St. Dorchester, MA 02122) on Monday, June 27 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Hayes, who grew up going to the Adams Street library, will read children’s books to over fifty local children in attendance. Media interested in covering the summer reading event should contact Erika Wentzell at ewentzell@bostonbruins.com.
Beginning this summer, the Boston Bruins will also be partnering with the Children’s Librarians of New Hampshire to bring “When You Read, You Score!” to local libraries in New Hampshire. Throughout the summer, Bruins Mascot Blades and members of the Bruins Ice Girls team will be visiting libraries across Massachusetts and New Hampshire in an effort to encourage children and teens to keep reading over the summer. During the visits children will get to meet Blades, participate in Bruins craft activities and play Bruins trivia. “When You Read, You Score!” participants will also have a chance to win Bruins prizes.
“We’re honored to continue our partnership with the Bruins to support literacy and education among children,” said Fraser Cameron, CEO, Velcro Companies. “Our commitment to education is year-round, and this program is a fun way for young readers to continue their love of reading during the school vacation season and keep their literacy skills sharp.”
To help inspire children and teens to keep reading over the summer, Bruins players, including Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Brad Marchand and Tuukka Rask have helped libraries develop Favorite Books of the Boston Bruins – a recommended reads list that also includes librarian picks for the best hockey books. Note to Editors: At Velcro Companies, we are proud that VELCRO® brand products have become a part of everyday life, but that ubiquity sometimes produces confusion. The VELCRO® trademark should be used only when referring to genuine VELCRO® brand fasteners.  Non-VELCRO® brand products should be identified by their functional terms, such as “hook and loop,” “self-adhesive straps,” and so forth.  The VELCRO® mark should always be used as an adjective and never as a noun or a verb.  The term “Velcro Companies” should be used when referring to our company and its executives.
