When it comes to purchasing a baby diaper or medical brace, it’s important to know what materials go into making that product. For many consumers and businesses today, price is not the only thing being scrutinized on a product’s label. Textile products can come in direct contact with a consumer’s skin, so it’s essential the product is free from any harmful chemicals. At Velcro Companies, we value consumer safety and our customers’ high-quality standards. That’s why many of our VELCRO® Brand products are OEKO–TEX® Standard 100 certified.
What is OEKO–TEX® Standard 100?
OEKO-TEX® is a trademark representing certifications provided by the International Association for Research & Testing in the textile industry.
Among the most recognized OEKO-TEX® labels in the world is the Standard 100. Products with this label have been validated that every component is free from harmful materials. Standard 100 tests for several hundred substances such as dyes, carcinogenic and allergy-inducing colorants, pesticides and more. Whether the substances are banned by local government or not, this can cover products such as diapers, clothing, linen, medical equipment, furniture and more.
The level of testing is broken into classes determined by a product’s exposure to skin:
Class I: Products that have the most direct contact with skin. These are products typically intended for babies and toddlers such as diapers.
Class II: Apparel textiles such as shirts and linens.
Class III: Limited direct skin contact such as jackets and outerwear.
Class IV: Little or no direct skin contact such as furnishings.
Every piece of a textile product needs to be tested and verified, including, fabric, liners, buttons and hook and loop fasteners.
Why certain VELCRO® Brand products are certified
VELCRO® Brand fasteners are an established name within a number of industries due to our history, quality and technology. To remain as a top choice for personal care, footwear & apparel, industrial and medical manufacturers, many of our fasteners are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. They can be used to secure a baby diaper, fasten a jacket pocket, affix medical braces and masks or hold cushions on furniture.
OEKO–TEX® Standard 100 adds trust between suppliers & manufacturers
Consumers want to know their clothing, linens and furniture don’t contain harmful chemicals – even substances they don’t know about. Manufacturers need to uphold their brand by providing proof that their products are free from any potentially dangerous materials. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 tests every single component of a jacket, diaper or cushion, and as a certified supplier, we’re able to partner with these manufacturers to ensure transparency and quality of product.
If you’re looking for OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified products that have a well-established presence in the textile industry, we can find a custom fastening solution for you.
