How to Make a DIY Unpaper Towel Roll
What you’ll need:
- 2 yds of patterned flannel fabric
- 2 yds of solid flannel fabric
- 4 yds of absorbent fabric, (such as a diaper utility fabric)
- Pins or clips
- VELCRO® Brand Sleek & Thin™ Sew On Fasteners
- Sewing machine
What to do:
Start by cutting all your fabric into 12” x 12” squares.
Then, layer the fabric together. You’ll want to sandwich your patterned fabric (facing down) between a solid flannel square (your bottom layer) and your absorbent fabric (your top layer). Pin or clip each square together and repeat this step 8 times.
Now it’s time to start sewing! Sew around the perimeter of each square with a ¼ inch inseam, leaving only a small gap.
Turn out each towel, then iron with care. Pay close attention to the gap and make sure to fold in the edges, creating a nice seam.
Next, top stitch around each towel.
Now take a pack of VELCRO® Brand Sleek & Thin™ Sew On Tape and cut two strips per towel- 1 ½ inch length.
You’ll need to clip a piece of loop (the soft side) to the top and bottom right corners of your pattern side. Flip the towel over and pin the hook (the rough side) to the opposite edges of the towel.
Sew the VELCRO® Brand Sleek & Thin™ Fasteners to the towel.
Using an old paper towel roll, wrap the towels around the roll, connecting the towels as you go. Now just place them on a towel holder and you’re good-to-go!
And that’s it! Your DIY Unpaper towel roll is finished! Wipe up spills or clean surfaces. Then wash and re-use them time after time!
