VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® FR 889 UL Certified Fasteners

VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® 889 fasteners provide a reusable way to bundle and organize cables in high, medium and low-voltage installations. The self-engaging hook and loop material comes in a standard 25-yard roll, so installers can cut each tie to the length needed for the cable bundle. The one-piece, direct-molded construction eliminates the need for an adhesive laminate, helping provide dependable performance in demanding cable installations. A soft, adjustable closure supports neat routing, easier maintenance and safe securing of sensitive cables.

Whatever your requirements are, we will work closely with you to develop a unique, optimized solution.

For teams comparing fire resistant cable ties, VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® 889 fasteners combine reusable cable management with verified fire retardant, third-party certified plenum rated for use in air handling spaces by Underwriters Laboratories. They are well suited for data centers, network rooms, control systems, security systems, professional AV, HVAC and other applications where cables must remain organized and accessible.

VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® 889 fasteners are engineered for superior performance, offering shear strength 1.5X greater than leading competitors[1], ensuring a more robust, reliable solution for demanding environments.

1. How this supports cable installations

Reusable Fire-Retardant Cable Ties for Cable Installations

Electrical contractors, low-voltage installers, data center operators, engineers, general contractors, specifiers and facility maintenance professionals need cable fasteners that support safe routing and future service work. VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® FR 889 fasteners help with securing cables in plenum spaces, organizing pathways and bundling cords without a rigid locking head.

It is a fastening solution, not a firestop, thermal barrier, cable sleeve or circuit-integrity product. Its fire-retardant and plenum ratings apply to the fastener itself and should be read with the applicable code and product documentation.

How the Self-Engaging Hook and Loop Fastener Works

The one-piece material is direct molded with hook on one side and loop on the reverse. After an installer measures and cuts a length, the fastener wraps around cables, wires, tubes or fiber optics and engages with itself. No buckle, locking head or separate attachment is required.

The closure can be opened, adjusted and reused when a bundle changes. This makes it practical for moves, adds and changes (MAC), as well as routine troubleshooting and equipment replacement.

Key Cable Management Benefits

These reusable fire retardant cable ties support clean pathways while keeping access simple. Their adjustable, tool-free design lets installers add, remove or reposition cables without cutting off a single-use tie. The soft fastening surface also helps limit pressure on fiber-optic and data cables, which can reduce the risk of cable deformation, signal problems and rework caused by excessive tension.

2. Fire retardant properties & compliance with industry standards

Fire Retardant and UL Certified as Plenum Rated

VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® FR 889 fasteners are certified by Underwriters Laboratories under UL File E175213 as plenum rated in accordance with UL 62275 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 62275-16, Cable Management Systems – Cable Ties for Electrical Installations. This certification means these fasteners are suitable for use in air-handling spaces in accordance with Section 300.22 (C) and (D) of the National Electrical Code. As part of this certification, they are tested and assigned a UL 94 V-2 Flame Rating and meet the requirements of UL 2043 – Fire Test for Heat and Visible Smoke Release for Discrete Products and Their Accessories Installed in Air-Handling Spaces (AH-2).

VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® FR 889 fasteners also meet the FAR 25.853 Appendix F 12-second and 60-second burn tests and MVSS 302. These ratings describe tested flammability performance. They do not mean the fastener is fireproof or able to shield cables from heat during a fire.

Product Construction and Typical System Performance

The medium-profile fastener is made with a polypropylene hook and polyamide backing. Typical system performance includes average closure peel strength of 0.99 PIW, average closure shear strength of 75 PSI and medium cycle life.

These figures are reference values rather than specification guarantees (further detail is available in the Technical Data Sheet upon request). Performance for a specific installation should be evaluated in the intended application. Product behavior may vary with bundle size, overlap, environmental exposure, cable type and installation method.

Data Center and Telecommunications Cable Management

VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® 889 fasteners support cable organization in high-density data center and telecommunications environments. They can be used across racks, patch panels, cable trays, pathways and network closets (IDF and MDF) to manage fiber-optic, data and communications cabling.

Their reusable format is well suited to systems that require frequent reconfiguration as equipment, connections and capacity change. The product can also support organized routing and cable identification in crowded installations. VELCRO® Brand data center cable management guidance references practices associated with BICSI, ANSI/TIA and AVIXA.

Electrical and Commercial Building Applications

VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® 889 fasteners can be used for securing cables in air-handling spaces, organizing pathways and bundling in control systems, data and IT networks, distributed antenna systems, electrical work, HVAC installations, professional AV and security systems. Additional VELCRO® Brand Professional Series fasteners are available for a wider range of trade and installation needs. Their adjustable format is useful in spaces where cables may be added, moved or serviced after the original installation.

For each project, installers should follow the approved VELCRO® Brand product documentation, cable-manufacturer guidance, project specifications and applicable electrical codes.

3. How to use VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® 889 Fasteners

How to Measure, Cut and Install

The basic application method is simple: bundle, wrap and fasten.

  1. Arrange the cables into a smooth bundle without sharp bends or crossed runs.
  2. Measure enough material to wrap the bundle and provide secure overlap in accordance with BICSI standards.
  3. Cut the fastener to length with scissors.
  4. Wrap it around the bundle without pulling tightly against the cables.
  5. Press the hook and loop surfaces together, then check that the bundle remains supported without excess compression.

To make a change, peel the closure open, add or remove cables and re-engage the fastener. No hot knife, tensioning tool, clamp or sleeve-installation tool is needed.

Installation Best Practices

  • Select a width that fits the cable bundle and installation.
  • Use enough overlap for firm engagement in accordance with BICSI standards.
  • Avoid overtightening fiber-optic, copper data and other pressure-sensitive cables.
  • Follow cable-manufacturer bend-radius limits and project support-spacing requirements.
  • Test the product in the end-use application when static discharge is a concern.

Application Considerations

Extended water exposure may reduce closure performance, though performance may return after the fastener dries. The product has not been tested for resistance to gasoline, motor oil, transmission fluid, autoclaving, gas sterilization or steam sterilization. Confirm suitability for the intended application before use. Store the product at 65°F to 75°F, with relative humidity between 40% and 65%.

Hook and Loop Fasteners vs. Plastic Cable Ties

Hook and loop cable ties are adjustable, reusable and removable without a cutting tool. Their soft construction helps crews control bundle pressure and supports quick access during maintenance. Plastic cable ties are commonly single use and may place more concentrated pressure on the bundle if pulled too tightly.

Rigid ties may still be selected for permanent fastening or applications that require greater tensile strength, but they are not suitable for delicate cables. The right choice depends on the cable type, service needs, project requirements and installation environment. For evolving networks, fiber optic cabling and frequent service work, reusable hook and loop fasteners often provide more practical access.
