It’s been a busy winter for us. After BAU 2013 in Munich, we headed west to Salt Lake City for Outdoor Retailer’s Winter Market. Despite Mother Nature’s best attempts to stop us (major ice storm), we unbundled and joined our industry mates in the exhibition hall and on the slopes!
The selection is so wide at the Winter Market that we deployed two Velcro USA teams. Some of us met with retailers to support our consumer business, while others met with the companies behind the best outdoor gear on the market. The team approach paid off. We had productive discussions with some of the most innovative companies in the industry. One such discussion revolved around an entirely new retrofitted solution for a new sneaker.
We also shared a selection of our new outdoor and leisure fastening solutions, including the eye-catching VELCRO® Brand One-Wrap®, which has taken on a whole new look since we partnered with Katmandu to offer custom color. Our innovative closure system, Press-LOK® made a splash for its quiet versatility in water and out.
After the event wrapped, it was encouraging to reflect on the direction the industry is headed. Increasingly, focus is being paid to material innovation, the value of locally manufactured products, and leading environmental initiatives — all conversation points we are well versed in and committed to company-wide. Our partnership with Arc’Teryx is an early example of the value we can provide a top line manufacturer. We’re confident that as outdoor retail evolves to keep up with our active consumers, we’ll stay right alongside.
